Founded in 1966, Royal Warrant Holder Selectaglaze is the acknowledged specialist and market leader in the design, manufacture and installation of secondary window systems for the UK and Irish markets. These are suited to almost any building, historic or contemporary and are purpose designed to be as sympathetic as possible to the character of the building. The company offers the benefit of considerable site experience, independent testing and certification and adherence to strict quality systems. WHAT IS SECONDARY GLAZING?Secondary glazing, not to be confused with double glazing, involves the installation of an additional purpose-made internal glazed window. These inner windows offer a number of distinct advantages, the main one being significant soundproofing - but they can also improve thermal insulation to meet current building standards and provide greatly enhanced security. Secondary windows are generally constructed from aluminium sections as extruded aluminium allows the production of strong complex shapes (including curved designs) with minimum sight lines. An extensive range of paint and anodised finishes allows close match to the interior décor and units will accept a range of thickness and specifications of glazing. The use of laminated glass, which absorbs most of the harmful UV light, can provide protection against fade to pictures, drapes and soft furnishings. NOISE REDUCTION THROUGH SECONDARY GLAZINGPeace and quiet to allow a good nights sleep is one of the most important factors for business people choosing a city centre hotel and once guests start complaining about the noise outside, business is likely to be lost. It isn't just city centre hotels that suffer. Close to airports near a motorway, in fact wherever there is noise pollution, an hotel's business will suffer. Secondary glazing offers considerably higher noise reduction than standard double glazed units and secondary glazing is often specified into new buildings to provide triple glazing. Selectaglaze's units can offer noise reduction in excess of 45dB. GREATER ENERGY EFFICIENCYBuilding owners and managers now need to consider ways of reducing energy usage. Secondary glazing is an ideal solution for windows and can provide insulation levels in line with current building regulations. This will both save money and improve environmental credentials. ENHANCED WINDOW SECURITYWindows have traditionally been seen as 'soft targets' for physical attack and points of entry for intruders and have provided little protection against bomb blast. There is a duty of care under health and safety obligations to minimise risks to guests and visitors and secondary glazing can provide a very effective barrier. A laminate glass will help contain flying glass, a major cause of injury in the event of a blast. The use of strong locks and anti-bandit glass will deter intruders and provide guests with peace of mind. Selectaglaze products are accredited to 'Secured by Design' and fully tested and certified at a number of levels for containment of blast, protection against intruders and even protection against ballistic attack. MINIMAL DISRUPTION TO BUSINESS Secondary glazing is appropriate for staged refurbishment or upgrade plans as all windows are purpose made and the production process is suited to small runs. The windows arrive fully assembled to allow rapid installation with minimal disruption to guests. Work can therefore progress on a staged basis even in Hotels with full occupancy. The units also require very little on-going maintenance.
