Shearings Buys Three British Hotels

08 July 2008

Coach tours company Shearings Holidays has expanded its hotel portfolio with the acquisition of three UK hotels.

Shearings has recently launched a £25m investment plan for its hotel estate, adding the St George Hotel in Harrogate, the George Hotel in Chollerford and the Eden Arms Hotel in Rushyford.

Shearings Holidays Chief Executive Denis Wormwell told Travel Weekly that changing demands in the market were behind the move.

"Increasingly our hotels are attracting more independent travellers who are looking for quality and value for money.

"In an economic climate where the strength of the euro puts people off travelling abroad, it makes sound commercial sense to commit our resources to expand our hotel portfolio," said Wormwell.
