Nigeria Dumps Novotel for Golden Tulip

24 February 2010

Nigerian property development company UPDC has ditched French partner Novotel Group for Netherlands-based Golden Tulip Hospitality Group.

Shortly after completion of the Tower-I development in Lagos, Nigeria UACN, which runs UPDC, confirmed the switch but refused to give an official reason, although low returns during Novotel's management may be to blame.

Nigerian newspaper The Daily Champion speculates that the reason has more to do with Golden Tulip’s existing partnership with Dutch Airline KLM, which may help boost a customer base.

This will be the first hotel owned by the Dutch group in Nigeria and features 471 room and suites with 24-hour police surveillance, as well as in-house security.
