Hotel prices in the UK fell by 13% in 2009 compared with 2008, the lowest level for six years, according to the Hotel Price Index survey.
Three years ago, UK hotels had the most expensive hotel rooms, currently standing in 13th position among other European hotels.
In 2009, guests staying in British hotels paid just £84 per night compared with £97 per night the previous year.
With room prices of £111, Bath remained the UK's most expensive city, despite an 11% year-on-year fall in prices.
Room prices also fell across cities in London by 7%, Southampton by 30%, Belfast by 27% and Aberdeen by 26%, while Coventry emerged as the UK's best-value city where prices fell by 20%.
Prices in Edinburgh were down by 6%, while prices in Cardiff dropped 11% and the Channel Island of Jersey fell by 17%.
Hotel prices across the country fell by 21% for US travellers, while visitors from Europe paid 18% less per night compared with 2008.
David Roche, president of Hotels.com, said prices fell globally by 14% on already weak 2008 figures.
