Construction of a $6bn (£3.48bn) luxury hotel on a pier over the waters of Sydney Harbour in Australia has been criticised by public and heritage groups.
Last week, design plans were revealed to the public showing the 60-storey hotel positioned 109 yards out onto the water.
The design is criticised for exceeding density restrictions and height limits, and also for turning the narrowest public waterway into a private zone, according to telegraph.co.uk.
Barangaroo Residents Action Group president Dr Ian Campbell said the design of the hotel and surrounding buildings was atrocious, and the government failed to consult the community.
Lord Richard Rogers won a design competition to redesign the 22ha site in collaboration with developer Lend Lease.
The development is part of a regeneration programme of the Barangaroo region, and is being delivered for the Barangaroo Development Authority (BDA).
BDA said changes will return 2.7ha to the harbour, compensating for the land reclaimed to create the new pier.
Rogers said he had no reservations about going where no developer had gone before.
