Hotel occupancy in Hawaii rose to 81.8% for the week ending 17 July, up 7% from 74.8% during the same period in 2009, according to an industry report.
The Hawaii Hotel Industry Snapshot report was conducted by Smith Travel Research and Honolulu-based Hospitality Advisors.
Hotel occupancy in the US state was 10.8% ahead of the national average of 71%, with Oahu posting the highest occupancy at 92.8% followed by Maui at 77.9%.
Kauai and the Big Island recorded 68.9% and 58.5% occupancy, respectively, however, room rates declined from last year for both islands, according to Pacific Business News.
State-wide hotel room rates rose by 4.3% to an average of $183.31 a night.
Maui registered the highest room rates at $239.97 a night, up 2.5% from the previous year while Oahu saw room rates increase by 7.3% to $164.80.
