Abu Dhabi Hotel Occupancy Rises by 16%

Abu Dhabi's hotel occupancy for the first half of 2010 rose by 16% compared with the same period in 2009.

A total of 936,579 guests stayed in the emirate's 116 hotels and hotel apartments from January to June this year, while guest nights rose by 11% to 2.47m, according to Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) report.

ADTA director General Mubarak Al Muhairi said that the nation had seen double-digit monthly growth since last November, well above the targeted annual growth of 10%.

Overall, the international market grew by 13% with Abu Dhabi receiving 397,547 domestic guests, of which UK guest arrivals totalled 60,994.

Guest arrivals from GCC countries grew by 30% over the year to 52,505, according to ADTA.

ADTA intends to target a 10% overall rise in hotel guests for the full year compared with 2009 to take arrivals to 1.65m.
