The affiliates of Hyatt and Japanese construction company Takenaka have signed a management agreement for a new Park Hyatt hotel in Kyoto.

Expected to open in 2019, the 70-room Park Hyatt Kyoto hotel will feature a low-rise building in consideration of the Ninen-zaka cityscape.

Hyatt Japan and Micronesia senior vice-president Hirohide Abe said: “For the past 22 years, the Park Hyatt brand has established a formidable reputation in Japan, by defining and delivering understated luxury for both international and local guests.

“Together with Kyoyamato and Takenaka, we are excited to bring the Park Hyatt brand to Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan.”

The hotel is similar to the existing 38 Park Hyatt hotels across the globe and will be surrounded by UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Takenaka has signed an agreement with the Sanso Kyoyamato restaurant owner Kyoyamato in Kyoto to construct the hotel on the site.

Construction of Park Hyatt Kyoto is scheduled to begin at the end of this year and is slated for completion in 2019.

Takenaka will oversee the construction and design, while Tony Chi and Associates would be responsible for the hotel’s interior designs.
