Marriott International has announced plans to open the first hotel under the AC Hotels by Marriott portfolio in Nice, France.

The 143-room Elysee Palace Hotel will join over 80 existing AC Hotels by Marriott throughout Spain, Italy and Portugal, and will be rebranded AC Hotel Nice following an extensive renovation.

Under a management agreement with SNC Hoche Promotion, the hotel is expected to open in early 2013.

"We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our AC Hotels by Marriott brand into France," said Marriott International’s European president and managing director Amy McPherson.

"We see tremendous opportunity for the brand here and are aggressively pursuing numerous development opportunities for AC throughout Europe and Latin America."

According to the group, the Elysee Palace Hotel will be the first new hotel to be added to the portfolio since the launch of the new co-brand in 2011.
