Spain-based hospitality group Melia Hotels International (MHI) has signed an agreement to open an Innside hotel in New York City’s NoMad.

The new Innside Manhattan will be the first Melia property in the region and is scheduled to open in 2016. The move is part of MHI’s global growth strategy, under which the company has spread its portfolio across 40 countries worldwide.

Innside Manhattan will be housed in a 20-story new-ground-up-construction building on West 27th Street, which is located between Sixth and Seventh Avenues and is close to the Empire State Building, Times Square, the Penn Station and Madison Square Garden.

The new Innside is expected to complement the increasing development surrounding the NoMad area. The hotel will have 313 rooms, a three-meal restaurant, bar and meeting rooms.

Melia Americas VP Alvaro Tejeda said that the significance of the property to the group is profound, and the German-originated brand will bring a fresh and innovative hotel concept to North America.

"With MHI’s aggressive strategy for the growth and development of Innside as an international brand whose versatility and functionality, as well as profitability, offers true assets for developers, we have been able to leverage new business opportunities and projects within Europe, China, Indonesia and Latin America," Tejeda added.
