Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide has said that it will open three new hotels on the site of the former Metropolitan Hotel in Dubai in 2015.

Guide de Wilde, Starwood SVP, regional director for Middle East, said in an interview with Hotelier Middle East that the complex, comprising the 966-key Westin Dubai, the 241-room St Regis Dubai and the 384-key W Hotel, will open progressively during 2015.

St Regis will open in the second quarter, W Hotel in the third quarter and the Westin will open towards the end of the year, according to de Wilde.

The new properties, which will mark the first foray of the St Regis and W brands into the UAE market, are being developed by Dubai-based Habtoor.

"This is going to be a fantastic destination in Dubai and we’ll sit right at the heart with fantastic accessibility."

The 1 million ft² development located within the $1.4bn Habtoor Palace complex on Sheikh Zayed Road was originally scheduled to open in 2017.

In addition to the three hotels, the Habtoor Palace complex will include a 1,100-seat theatre, a shopping arcade, tennis and sports academy and multiple-themed restaurant as well as a Las Vegas style entertainment centre.

"The complex will have a prime location in Dubai. The Creek is going to be moved, so the site will have a waterfront," De Wilde added.

"They’re going to create two pedestrian bridges and a mega shopping mall. This is going to be a fantastic destination in Dubai and we’ll sit right at the heart with fantastic accessibility."

Furthermore, Starwood will also open a new Sheraton hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road in September, marking the brand’s 15th hotel in Dubai.
