Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has expanded its portfolio of hotels and resorts in the Kingdom of Jordan to five. The company opened a new holiday resort in Aqaba, Tala Bay, in August 2009, and it is the group’s second facility in Aqaba.

The Switzerland-based international hotel group already has four hotels in Jordan. It then signed a management agreement for a new holiday resort at Tala Bay in Aqaba and the construction started in 2005. Construction work on the project’s first phase was completed in February 2009 and the hotel began commercial operations on 21 August 2009. The hotel was opened with 306 rooms, however by the beginning of 2010, it is planned to have 456 rooms and suites.

The hotel is owned by the Zara South Coast Development Company. Mövenpick and Zara South have been in partnership for more than ten years.

Situated on the southern shores of the Red Sea at Aqaba, Tala Bay is an exclusive residential community. Several hotels and apartments, restaurants, a marina, shops and boutiques have been constructed in the region in the last few years. Tala Bay can be reached in a ten-minute drive from the city centre of Aqaba, and 20-minute drive from King Hussein International Airport.

The hotel has a modern design and light-coloured furnishings. Facilities such as meeting halls and the amphitheatre allow organised groups to conduct a variety of events.

Holiday facilities, including three swimming pools and water features, provide entertainment to guests, making the hotel a modern resort.

In addition, the hotel also offers a wide range of leisure amenities such as a diving centre, an open-air amphitheatre, a children’s activity centre, banquet services and a shopping arcade.

Tala Bay spa

The Tala Bay hotel’s spa and wellness area opened in June 2010. The spa covers an area of 1200m² and provides a range of treatments and therapies. It includes the Zara Spa, 11 treatment rooms and a nail studio.

Accommodation

The first phase of the new Tala Bay hotel, Mövenpick’s second property in Aqaba, has 306 rooms, including individual, twin, family rooms and junior and executive suites. The hotel has 145 family rooms (67 standard, 35 superior and 43 deluxe), 65 king rooms (27 standard, 15 superior and 23 deluxe) and 83 twin rooms (22 standard, 16 superior and 45 deluxe).

Other facilities in the hotel include nine senior king suites, two executive suites (Tala Bay suites) and two rooms for the disabled. Non-smoking rooms are also provided on request.

The hotel’s family rooms feature one king sized bed or two twin beds. The other two types of rooms namely senior suite room and Tala bay suite have one king sized bed.

Tala Bay amenities

The Mövenpick Tala Bay hotel offers various amenities such as LAN connections throughout the resort, 24-hour room service and TV. The rooms feature a minibar and coffee and tea-making facilities.

Dining at Tala Bay

Dining facilities in the hotel include a main restaurant, an Italian speciality restaurant, a seafood outlet with a total of eight restaurants and several bars. The restaurants are Najel, Casalingo, Sejan, baraka and bars include The Bob Pub and Mello Chill Out Bar.

Conference and meeting facilities

The conferencing and banquet facilities at the hotel include a 234m² ballroom and a meeting room that covers an area of 80m². The hotel also features a pre-function hall. The conference and meeting rooms are designed for meetings, parties and seminars.

Tala Bay hotel contractors and suppliers

Five contractors are involved with the construction of the Tala Bay hotel. Jordan-based Mira Water Technology provided the required water treatment technology to the hotel. Al-Masar Contracting Company, Madanat Contracting Company (MCC), Engineering Universe for Building & Contracting and Jahshan Engineering Construction WLL provided construction services.

UK-based ARA Design Company provided interior architectural design services for the hotel project.
