Ritz Carlton hotel in Toronto is a luxury hotel and 209.8m-tall residential skyscraper located on 181 Wellington Street West. The 700,000ft² luxury hotel / residential development was opened on 16 February 2011.

It is built over 53 floors. The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company developed the hotel in association with Graywood Developments and Cadillac-Fairview Corporation.

The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company is the manager of the property. The development involved an investment of approximately $300m.

Design of the luxury hotel

The 53-storey five-star hotel and condominium residence was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox in collaboration with Page and Steele Architects. It has six underground floors and a total floor space of 65,030m².

The facade consists of post-modern glass. The first 20 floors of the building are used for hotel. Floors 21 to 51 are used for condominium residences. The 52nd floor consists of a penthouse suite while floor 53 is used for housing mechanical equipment of the building.

Accommodation and capacity at the Ritz Carlton hotel

The hotel has 267 guest rooms including 59 suites and 159 condominium residences. The rooms are categorised into club level rooms, deluxe rooms and suites. The club level rooms include 450ft² of club deluxe room and 650ft² of club conner suite.

The deluxe room measures 450ft². The hotel has 56 corner suites which measure 650ft², two deluxe suites measuring 1,450ft² and one Ritz Carlton suite measuring 2,415ft². All the guest rooms are smoke-free.

In-room amenities

The guest room amenities include 42in HD TVs, CD and DVD players, iPod docking stations, spacious dual vanities with make-up mirror, private shower with rain shower head and hand-held shower and deep soaker tubs.

It also features high-speed wired and wireless internet access, two-line speaker phones, laptop-compatible safes, dedicated concierges, full-size ironing board, coffee and tea making machines and twice-daily housekeeping service.

Spa

A spa is located on the fifth floor with 23,000ft² area. It has 16 spacious treatment rooms and an expensive nail salon. It also has a steam room, sauna and vitality pools, fitness centre and a gym with cardio equipment. It also features a yoga studio, an indoor swimming pool and three relaxation lounges.

Meeting and event facilities

The hotel has 7,400ft² ballroom which can accommodate up to 600 guests. The 3,000ft² Wellington ballroom is divisible into four sections. The hotel also has a spacious pre-function hall and executive boardroom.

The meeting rooms are facilitated with recycled pencils, linen-less tables, organic flowers, eco-friendly natural water in glass bottles, online event menus and compostable coffee cups. It also has a full-fledged business centre.

Dining facilities

The hotel features two restaurants and one bar. TOCA by Tom Brodi restaurant offers classic Canadian cuisines. DEQ is an outdoor lounge restaurant located on the terrace. It offers variety of food and beverages. The TOCA bar offers pre-dinner cocktails and spirits.

Contractors involved in the Canadian hotel

The contractors involved in the construction of the hotel include Ellis Don Corporation, which provided project management services, and Limen Group which provided masonry contractor services. Sprint Insight was the HVAC contractor.

The Mitchell Partnership provided mechanical engineering. Halcrow Yolles was awarded with a contract to provide structural engineering services.

The interior spaces of the building were designed by HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates Design Consultant, Estudio Mariscal, and Babey Moulton Jue and Booth. The electrical contractor was Nortown Electrical Contractors Associates.

Hidi Rae Consulting Engineers provided electrical engineering services. C & T Reinforcing Steel was contracted to supply reinforcing steel.

Global Architectural Metals provided 46,000ft² curtainwall and 37,000ft² of aluminium panel work. Sota Glazing was the windows-glass-glazing contractor. Romtal Mechanical was the mechanical trades contractor.

Baker Real Estate was awarded with real estate brokerage contract.
