Australia’s travel & tourism industry registered a 10.2% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 1.82% in August 2022 when compared with July 2022.

Out of the travel & tourism industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.08% share in August 2022, recording a decrease of 0.25% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Australia’s travel & tourism industry’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 95% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s travel & tourism industry in August 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 22.5% in August 2022, registering a 64% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 22.5% share, a decrease of 40% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 20%, registering a 60% rise from July 2022.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 17.5%, down 30% over the previous month.

Top five travel & tourism companies in Australia’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 5.88% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s travel & tourism industry during August 2022 over July 2022.

Virgin Australia Holdings posted 14 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a rise of 27.27% over the previous month, followed by Flight Centre Travel Group with 7 jobs and a 36.36% drop. Qantas Airways with 5 IT jobs and Queensland Rail with 3 jobs, recorded a 28.57% decline and a flat growth, respectively, while Minor International recorded an increase of 50% with 3 job postings during August 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 70%, down by 39.13% from July 2022. Mid Level positions with a 17.5% share, registered an increase of 16.67% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 12.5% share, flat growth over July 2022.
