The five biggest tourism source markets in Africa in 2021

Verdict predicts the five biggest source markets for tourism in Africa in 2021, based on international departure estimates from GlobalData’s traveller demands & flows database.

1. Algeria – 5.5 million departures

GlobalData forecasts that Algeria will see 5.5 million international departures in 2021, making it the biggest source market in Africa. According to GlobalData’s traveller demands & flows database Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey are expected to be the most popular destinations for those travelling from Algeria in 2021.

2. South Africa – 4.5 million departures

According to GlobalData’s traveller demands & flows database, South Africa will be the second biggest source market in Africa, with 4.5 million international departures. GlobalData predicts that Mozambique, Lesotho and Botswana will be the most popular destinations for this origin market in 2021.

3. Zimbabwe – 3.2 million departures

With 3.2 million international departures anticipated, Zimbabwe will be the third biggest source market in Africa, according to GlobalData. South Africa, Botswana and Zambia are forecast to be the most popular destinations for this source market in 2021, according to GlobalData’s traveller demands & flows database.

4. Lesotho – 3 million departures

Lesotho will be the fourth biggest source market in Africa with 3 million international departures, according to GlobalData’s traveller demands & flows database. Moreover, GlobalData predicts South Africa, Canada and Botswana to be the most popular destinations for those travelling from Lesotho in 2021.

5. Egypt – 2.9 million departures

A predicted 2.9 million international departures in 2021 make Africa the fifth biggest source market in Africa, according to GlobalData’s estimates. The most popular destinations from Egypt during the year are expected to be the Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, according to GlobalData’s traveller demands & flows database.
