The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) has released five key recommendations through the ‘Safe Stay Guest Checklist’ for hotel guests.

Part of AHLA’s Safe Stay guidelines, the new checklist gives information to guests on how to travel safely while creating a standardised safety experience across the country.

AHLA president and CEO Chip Rogers said: “The top priority for the hotel industry is the health and safety of guests and employees. Utilising these best practices, including requiring face coverings and practicing social distancing in public spaces, will create an even safer environment for all our guests and employees.

“These preventative measures make it safer and easier for Americans to travel while also supporting hotel and tourism employees.”

The guidelines are an industry-wide, improved set of health and safety protocols which have been designed to provide a safe and clean environment for all guests and employees of hotels.

They include requiring face coverings in all indoor public spaces and practice social distancing in all common areas; selecting contactless options, where available; consider daily room cleaning; request contactless room service delivery; and refrain from traveling if the guest has any Covid-19 symptoms.

IHG Americas CEO Elie Maalouf said: “IHG fully supports the AHLA Safe Stay program, which complements the protocols in our own IHG Way of Clean, and the new Covid-19 best practices implemented in all of our hotels in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic.

“Requiring face coverings in all indoor public spaces across our industry will help create an even safer environment for all travelers and frontline hotel colleagues.”

Recently AHLA launched an online course called Covid-19 Precautions for Hotels developed in partnership with the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI).

The course, which aims to further expand the hotel industry’s Safe Stay initiative, will also help them train their staff on the enhanced safety and cleanliness guidelines.
