Two Emirati businessmen have donated a fully-equipped hotel in Dubai for use as a Covid-19 quarantine facility.

The move is expected to support the emirate as it works to limit the spread of this contagious disease.

According to a Khaleej Times report, the hotel was donated by Saud Othman Al Humaidan and Hussain Nasser Lootah.

It is located in Bur Dubai and features 91 rooms. As a quarantine centre, the hotel will be operated by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

The facility will serve as a quarantine for coronavirus patients as well as accommodate foreign tourists who could not return due to the suspension of transportation.

Humaidan was quoted by the publication as saying: “Uniting efforts to combat the pandemic and easing the challenges resulting from the crisis is our shared national duty.”

Lootah told Khaleej Times: “The business sector must set an example in providing support and the community must stand together with the leadership to combat the pandemic.”

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reported more than 33,000 cases, as of 29 May 2020. The death toll stands at 260.

Recently, Dubai hotels started preparations to reopen the locations as the government has relaxed some lockdown measures.

Several safety measures including implementation of social distancing protocols and enhanced disinfection procedures were adopted, as part of the reopening preparations.
