British multinational hospitality firm InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is set to foray into New Caledonia with three hotel signings.

The hotels, which are planned to be opened between 2021 and 2024, are part of a long-term management agreement with owner Société de développement et d’investissement des Îles Loyauté.

The new-build InterContinental Lifou Wadra Bay Resort, which is planned to be inaugurated in November 2021, is designed by local architect, Atelier 13, and interior designer, Chada.

Situated on the Lifou, the largest island of the Loyalty Islands, the hotel will feature 50 rooms, lagoon-front suites, all-day dining, a fine dining restaurant and bar, along with a gym, spa and an outdoor pool.

IHG will refurbish Hotel Paradis d’Ouvéa to a new resort, which will offer all-day dinning, a bar and an outdoor pool.

The hotel, which will be renamed to Holiday Inn Resort Ouvéa, is located on the beachfront at the Mouli Beach on the Unesco World Heritage site of Ouvéa Island.

Holiday Inn Resort Ouvéa, which will also be opened in November 2021, will feature 34 rooms.

The existing Hotel Drehu Village will be converted to Holiday Inn Resort Lifou in 2024 after a refurbishment programme.

Situated in the Lifou Island’s town centre of Wé, the 30-room beachfront resort will offer all-day dining and bar, as well as an outdoor swimming pool.

IHG vice president of development for Australasia, Japan & Pacific Abhijay Sandilya said: “The Loyalty Islands currently have no international hotel brand so bringing the world’s largest hotel brand family, Holiday Inn, and the world’s largest luxury hotel brand, InterContinental, to the islands will boost the territory’s global profile and give us a fantastic opportunity to offer IHG guests a unique New Caledonian tourism experience.”

At present, IHG has 51 hotels operating under four brands in Australasia with another 35 in the pipeline.
