Marriott International has opened a new hotel in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the first JW Marriott in the region outside of Mexico.

The JW Marriott Santo Domingo, which is located in the Piantini financial district, is located inside the city’s Blue Mall.

Facilities include the Vertygo 101 Lounge with a restaurant, bar and glass floor terrace that rises 101ft above the city street below.

The JW Marriott also offers nine event spaces, totalling over 2,938ft² of flexible meeting and event space, including the 1,158ft² ballroom, Winston Grill & Patio restaurant, complementary in-room WiFi and Aromatherapy bathroom amenities.

The presidential suite features an $8,000 Kohler bathtub with light therapy, massage and hydrotherapy.

Speaking about the opening, FVI-Fondo de Valores Inmobiliarios S.A.C.A. president Luis Emilio Velutini said: "The opening of this high luxury, sophisticated hotel marks an important milestone in the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry.

"With the thriving economy in the country and the success of the high-end Blue Mall complex, we are confident that this unique and visually stunning hotel will become a landmark in Santo Domingo attracting travellers and groups from all over the world."

JW Marriott, part of Marriott International, presently operates 68 JW Marriott hotels in 25 countries.

Furthermore, the hotel group is seeking have more than 100 properties over 40 countries by 2019.
