Oman has released new guidelines for the hotel staff and guests as the hospitality industry start preparations to resume operations.

According to a report in the Times of Oman, Ministry of Tourism has issued a set of instructions to the hotels on the steps that need to be undertaken to minimise Covid-19 contagion risks.

The hotels need to limit entrances, provide transparent face masks for receptionists and make hand sanitisers available for the guests.

The ministry also directed the hotels to keep swimming pools and gyms closed until further notice.

Furthermore, following a checkout, the room must remain vacant for a minimum of 24 hours. The room must also undergo deep cleaning before another guest checks in.

The instructions also include specific guidelines on elevator use and operations at hotel kitchens.

Ministry of Tourism investor services and quality management general manager Mohammed Al Zadjali was quoted by the publication as saying: “Preventive measures for the novel coronavirus in hotel establishments, coffee shops, and workers are linked to decisions made by several organisations, namely the Ministry of Tourism, Muscat Municipality, and the Ministry of Health.

“We sought approval from the Ministry of Health about the guidelines that these establishments must follow, and while the ministry agreed to the suggestions we’d make, they also added some more health provisions and requirements.”

As of 4 June, Oman has reported more than 14,000 confirmed Covid-19 cases. The death toll stands at 67.

Earlier this week, experts opined that hotel occupancy in the Middle-East is expected to increase later this year.
