The Intercontinental Hotels Group is planning to double the size of its operations in emerging markets including China, India and the Middle East.

The UK-based group believes that China will overtake the US as the world’s largest hotel market by 2025 and will be twice the size of the current US market by 2039.

It is planning to increase its room strength in China by eight times, offering 360,000 rooms across China by 2020.

In the same period, the company also plans to increase the number of hotels it operates in India from 12 to 150, and increase the number hotels in the Middle East to 190.
