InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) will open its first hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 1 February 2011.
The Nikko Hotel Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Ampang, owned by MTJ Development, will be renamed InterContinental Kuala Lumpur.
Jan Smits, managing director of IHG Asia Australasia, described Malaysia as “a key hotel market that has potential for long-term growth, especially in view of Malaysia’s target of reaching 36 million tourist arrivals by 2020”.
The 473-room hotel will embark on a 30-month refurbishment to be carried out in three phases.
In Malaysia, IHG also operates Crowne Plaza Mutiara Kuala Lumpur, Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie, Holiday Inn Resort Penang and Holiday Inn Malacca.
