Hotels across Europe have experienced a slight drop in room prices since January 2010, according to an industry report by Trivago.

The hotel-booking site’s monthly report of hotel prices showed a mix of rates, which averaged €105 per night, with sharp spikes in some countries cancelling out falls elsewhere.

Austrian capital Vienna witnessed a 16% fall to €109 ($146), Danish capital Copenhagen registered a 16% drop to €126 ($169), while Barcelona, Spain, saw a 13% fall to €97 ($130).

The Italian cities of Venice, Milan and Rome posted slight drops, with their average room rate standing at €110 ($148m).

Meanwhile, the average overnight cost of a room in France rose 31% to €139 ($187) compared with last January, while Switzerland posted a 17% rise to €213 ($286) in Geneva.

London recorded a room rate of €156 ($209), Oslo €153 ($205), Paris €150 ($201) and Stockholm €147 ($197), according to The Independent.
