The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority has recommended a $2bn plan to expand the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, US, and build a new hotel in South Boston's waterfront district.

The investment will double the size of the existing complex, adding a second exhibit hall, new meeting rooms, a multipurpose space and an adjacent hotel with up to 1,200 rooms.

The proposal needs to be financed through taxes and public subsidies, and requires backing from the City of Boston and the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, and approval of the Legislature.
