Oriental Hotels Expands Indian Portfolio

India-based hospitality firm Oriental Hotels has revealed its expansion plans, which include the opening of a 180-room Vivanta by Taj hotel in Coimbatore in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Construction of the property is expected to start during October-November 2011. Orienta

India-based hospitality firm Oriental Hotels has revealed its expansion plans, which include the opening of a 180-room Vivanta by Taj hotel in Coimbatore in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Construction of the property is expected to start during October-November 2011.

Oriental’s Vivanta by Taj-Fisherman’s Cove in Chennai will add 64 guestrooms to its current 106-room capacity.

According to Oriental, out of the 64 rooms, 14 are under construction and the rest are completed.

The company is also renovating the Taj Coromandel in Chennai and has completed work on a new swimming pool, retail shops, lobby and a reception, lounge and entrance area.

Oriental Hotels has spent Rs871.7m ($19m) on its expansion plans during the last fiscal year.

Oriental Hotels runs eight hotels, including two in Chennai and one each in Madurai, Coonoor, Mangalore, Visakhapatnam, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
