Marriott has awarded a contract to Convert2Green and 3663 to collect waste cooking oil from its hotels to then be converted into fuel.

Under the agreement, Convert2Green will refine the oil into biodiesel at its Cheshire plant so it can be used as fuel for the trucks of 3663, Marriott’s supply chain partner.

The move comes as part of Marriott’s sustainability efforts to reduce energy, waste, water and resource consumption, and to recycle and use greener, non-toxic materials in its supply chain.

Marriott said the recycled oil will help it reduce carbon emissions by up to 90% and that it aims to reduce its energy consumption globally by 25% by 2017.
