Indian motorcycle manufacturer Hero Group is to invest Rs6.5bn ($141m) in developing a five-star deluxe hotel in Gurgaon, India.

The 280-room project, part of the company’s plans to venture into the hospitality sector, will be commissioned in 12 months.

Hero Motors managing director Pankaj Munjal said the company is in talks with Four Seasons, Conrad and JW Marriot for a management contract for the property.

“Looking at the huge growth potential and dynamic social changes, we see room for a high-end hotel in this part of the national capital,” Munjal said.

The group, which recently split from its joint venture with Japanese auto giant Honda to build a separate brand identity, has created a large land bank, primarily in Punjab, Haryana and UP, which will be used to promote its hospitality business.
