Twenty hotels in the Egyptian resort towns of El Gouna and Taba Heights have been awarded a Green Star Certificate under The Green Star Hotel Initiative.

The scheme aims to improve environmental standards in the Egyptian hotel industry and focuses on environmental management, water and energy use, and staff training.

The hotels are awarded three, four or five green stars for improving their environmental performance, saving valuable resources and increasing their use of renewable energy, depending on the measures put in place.

El Gouna’s authentic architecture, sustainable development concept, internal recycling and water treatment plants have contributed to its recognition as Egypt’s greenest holiday destination.
