Travel website unusualhotelsoftheworld.com has been named best website for 2007 at the World Hospitality Awards, according to the website easier.com.

The idea for the website originated over eight years ago in a pub, when the site’s two founders were chatting about outstanding hotels they had stayed in.

The site’s covers more than 130 “unusual” properties from castles to igloos, at a range of different prices.

“We believe it is the most comprehensive source for unusual hotels around the world and as such features a whole variety of hotel properties,” the website says.

The site has managed to impress World Hospitality judges, who have previously awarded the likes of Hilton Hotels and Radisson.

To be featured on the site, properties must demonstrate why they are “unusual” and what is different about their offerings – users can then vote individually on the hotel’s ‘wow’ factor.
