UK firm Kaos Solutions has launched an application for booking last minute accommodation via mobile phones without the need to connect to the internet.
Room Angel, based on “Spontaneity Engine” software, allows mobile users to select hotel type, location and price range.
Choices are converted into a Short Message Service (SMS) message and sent to a hotel group or booking agency computer.
The best match is sent back to the user via SMS, who then makes their choice and a booking confirmation is sent.
Kaos says the information is displayed as a web page, not text message, allowing ease of use and clarity.
The service has won the South Yorkshire Development Investment Fund a £100,000 grant to develop the software for a range of applications including travel arrangements, sending flowers or placing a bet.
Room Angel is due to go live in April.
