Manor Kingdom Estates has unveiled plans to build a £50-million hotel complex called the Rutherford Castle Hotel at West Linton, south of Penicuik in Edinburgh.
The hotel is designed to compliment the Rutherford Castle Golf Course and will be the first world-class, five-star hotel in the region.
Developers hope that the development of the hotel will support the upgrade of Rutherford Castle Golf Club to championship standard, which would then be eligible to attract PGA events.
The hotel will offer 150 bedrooms, a deluxe spa and leisure club, cafes, dining room, whisky lounge, grand ballroom and conference centre. About £1 million will be spent on landscaping at the site.
The hotel is situated 20 minutes from Edinburgh and will be marketed as a rural getaway within reach of the city.
The hotel will be operated by De Vere, which already runs the five-star Cameron House by Loch Lomond.
Work is expected to begin on the project by late 2008.
