A London hotel has employed a “reader in residence” to read bedtime stories to hotel guests and provide literary advice.

For two weeks starting Monday, Hyatt’s Andaz Liverpool Street in London writer Damian Barr will read to guests or discuss literature with them.

The free service is Barr’s idea, USA Today reports.

“Most people haven’t been read to since they were children, and they don’t bring a lot of books to hotels,” he says.

“I always pack a selection, because you get tired of being in the CNN world.”

Barr also plans to remain available by phone to hotel guests after his stay for bibliotherapy – advising people on what to read.
