NH Hoteles has collaborated with Siemens to create ‘intelligent’ rooms in the NH Eurobuilding hotel in Madrid, in a bid to optimise energy consumption.
Two prototype rooms have been outfitted with smart technology, developed by Siemens to monitor water, light and energy consumption.
The technology also allows to adapt lighting, heating and air-conditioning preferences to suit individual guests.
The Desigo Hotel Solution is installed in every room for monitoring and optimising energy consumption and can translate the usage into the equivalent carbon emissions.
Based on this information, guests will be given incentives to behave in an environmentally friendly manner, and it will also allow the hotel to optimise the water and energy consumption associated with cleaning and preparation work.
NH Hoteles said it plans to install the new intelligent rooms in its future hotel developments.
The hotel chain has set up Siemens facility control systems integrated with its check-in systems to adapt the heating and air-conditioning to the actual occupation of the room.
These two new prototype rooms are in accordance with the hotel chain’s environmental plan, which aims to cut its water, light and energy consumption by 20% by 2012.
NH Hoteles owns 398 luxury hotels in 24 countries, while Siemens is an electronics and electrical engineering firm.
