The Hyatt Regency Irvine hotel in California, US, has received the waste reduction award for 2009 from the California Integrated Waste Management Board for its green initiatives.

The hotel incorporated many green initiatives such as the recycling of waste materials, wastewater collection and use of energy efficient lighting, according to recyclingtoday.com.

The hotel also uses environmentally friendly pool chemicals, EnergyStar appliances and only environmentally safe cleaners in guestrooms, as well as low-flow showerheads and sinks, and an automatic temperature set back in rooms.
