Indian-based hotel chain Royal Orchid Hotels is to open seven hotels in India as part of its expansion plans.
Royal Orchid will invest Rs500 crore ($112m) by next year, and is looking to operate the hotels on a contract management basis in tier I, II and III cities.
The expansion will bring the company’s total hotel count to 20 from the existing 13, and will add 1,200 rooms to its existing 1,100 rooms.
The group opened a four-star hotel, the Royal Orchid Central Grazia, in Navi Mumbai and will open another four-star 180-room hotel, the Central Royal Orchid, at Shimoga in Karnataka and a five-star 150-room hotel in Jaipur by the year-end.
Another 240-room hotel in Hyderabad will open next year, while its first international hotel resort, featuring 150-rooms, will open in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, in 2012.
The company’s initial public offer in 2006 funded its expansion plans, according to economictimes.com.
The group has three major brands: Hotel Royal Orchid, Royal Orchid Central and Royal Orchid Central Suites.
