Shangri-La Asia has signed a cooperation agreement with Turkish conglomerate Tanriverdi Holding to build a seven-star hotel in Istanbul, Turkey.

The $250m Shangri-La Istanbul will be built on an unused old tobacco warehouse on the banks of the Bosphorus Sea.

The 200-room hotel will have seven storeys, above and below sea level, and will open in April 2012, according to independent.co.uk.

Shangri-La Asia operates 68 hotels worldwide.
