The Greek hotel industry has revealed a steep fall in hotel bookings as tourists keep away because of increasingly violent demonstrations about the financial crisis that grips the nation.

Cancellations of hotel bookings amounted to 20,000 in the last two weeks in the Athens region alone.

Bookings to the Aegean islands have also fallen and Greek hoteliers are expecting a 10% drop in overall reservations and a 15% decline in revenues compared with last year.
