InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) will begin trials of a new technology next month allowing guests to check in using smart phones.
The Holiday Inn Chicago O’Hare Rosemont, Chicago, and the Holiday Inn Express Houston Downtown Convention Center in Texas, US, will begin the trial, which will run for 60-90 days.
The smart-phone technology has been created by Open Ways and is adaptable with most phones including iPhones, Blackberrys and the Android operating system.
IHG will build a website where participating guests can download the application to receive confirmation emails.
All the guest then needs to do is hold the confirmation message up to a sensor on the door to unlock it.
Starwood Hotels earlier offered guests at its Aloft Hotel in Lexington a branded card with radio frequency identification technology to unlock doors, according to content.usatoday.com.
