Marriott to Launch China Water Conservation Programme

Marriott International is to invest in a water conservation programme in southwest China over the next two years. The company will join Conservation International and Pingwu County Government in an effort to protect the largest source of fresh water in the mountains of southwest China.

Marriott will invest $500,000 towards the programme Nobility of Nature, which aims to assist rural communities in Sichuan Province by establishing sustainable businesses.

Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels have committed to reducing their water and energy use by 25% by 2017 throughout China.

Marriott expects to operate 60 hotels in China by the end of this year.

The company is also developing a global sustainable seafood programme and is focused on reducing its greenhouse emissions through conservation programmes.
