The projected occupancy rate for the Caribbean island of Tobago for July-August 2010 is 15% lower compared with last year’s figure, according to an industry poll.
The poll by Tobago Hotels Association (THA) said the figure is based on bookings so far and is expected to change over the next few days.
THA president Carol-Ann Birchwood-James said that demand for rooms is outstripping the seat availability of air and sea travel.
Birchwood-James said the association has not yet calculated the loss to the industry.
THA had allocated TTD$26m ($4m) to hotels and guesthouses on the island to assist with the global financial crisis this year, according to newsday.co.tt.
