Hilton Worldwide has signed a management agreement with the Mihtab Group to develop the first Hilton Hotels & Resorts property in Erbil, Iraq, as part of its expansion plans in Iraqi Kurdistan, Northern Iraq.

The Hilton Erbil Hotel & Spa will be the second Hilton Worldwide property in Erbil, following the announcement made in 2011 to develop a DoubleTree Suites by Hilton in the city. It is set to open in 2016.

According to Hilton Worldwide, establishment of the company’s presence in Kurdistan supports its strategy to open 40 more hotels in the Middle East and Africa within the next four years.

The 300-room hotel features a health club, an outdoor and indoor pool, a retail arcade, a spa, dining options including two restaurants, a dining area, a bar, a lobby lounge and a pool bar.

"The Hilton Erbil Hotel & Spa will be the second Hilton Worldwide property in Erbil."

The property will also offer five meeting rooms, two boardrooms and a ballroom with a capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 people.

Mihtab Group owner Zmnako Yasin Ismail Qadir, commenting on the partnership, said, "As we face a surge in domestic and international travel to Iraqi Kurdistan, the addition of a new property by Hilton Worldwide, and the well-known quality it represents, will be a major boost to the range of hospitality offerings currently available."
