Hyatt Hotels has expanded its presence in Central America with the opening of the new Andaz Peninsula Papagayo resort in Costa Rica.

The new property represents the second Andaz resort to open this year following the launch of Andaz Maui at Wailea in September.

Located on the northwest Pacific coast, the new resort offers views of the Bay of Culebra, ocean and forest.

Andaz Peninsula Papagayo’s pre-colonial design was designed by the Costa Rican architect Ronald Zurcher.

Built on 28 acres of oceanfront land, the new resort features 153 guest rooms including 21 luxury suites.

Andaz Peninsula Papagayo general manager Michael Schmid said, "Costa Rica is full of rich culture and history, and we can’t wait to provide our guests with new and inspiring experiences that will help them feel like a true local during their stay."

The new resort offers a variety of dining options from three restaurants; Chao Pescao Small Plates & Bar offers seasonal Caribbean-inspired gourmet creations, while Ostra, the hotel’s speciality restaurant, features three live culinary stations that enable guests to sample delicious specialties.

"Costa Rica is full of rich culture and history, and we can’t wait to provide our guests with new and inspiring experiences that will help them feel like a true local during their stay."

The Rio Bhongo is a three-meal, open-air restaurant featuring a wine stand as well as a coffee shop that provides Costa Rican chocolate and tea.

The hotel also offers outdoor and ocean activities, and has an 11,000ft² ONDA Spa with nine treatment rooms and an array of therapeutic treatments as well as a 24hr gym.

Andaz Peninsula Papagayo also has a private accessible beach as well as two swimming pools along with 8,000ft² of meeting and event space, studios with integrated audiovisual systems, a fully equipped open kitchen, and breakout spaces.

Hyatt Hotels & Resorts brands vice president Sara Kearney said the brand is thrilled to be working with local talent in Costa Rica to help drive unique cultural experiences for guests.

"As the brand continues to grow in exciting destinations, we will continue to stay true to the Andaz DNA and work with the locals who help define and represent all that these locations have to offer," Kearney added.
