Meliá Hotels International is set to open a new Innside by Meliá hotel in Aachen, Germany, in the first half of 2015.
The Spanish hotel chain has entered into a long-term lease deal with Hugenholtz Property Group’s (HPG) German subsidiary to operate the hotel brand.
Innside by Meliá, located 80km south-west of Dusseldorf and Koln, will feature 158 rooms, a sky bar and a rooftop restaurant.
Germany has, at present, nine Innside by Meliá hotels, which cater to both business and leisure travellers.
Meliá Hotels International vice chairman and CEO Gabriel Escarrer said: "The acquisition of the Innside brand in Germany in 2007 contributed to strengthen our portfolio with a fresh and innovative concept, for those of our customers who expect more than excellent service. During these five years, our growth in Germany has been closely associated with this brand, and we are facing an ambitious international expansion plan."
In a separate development, Meliá has signed a joint venture agreement with Katmandu Group and its operating company Producciones de Parques to develop the family-themed Sol Katmandu Park & Resort in Mallorca, Spain.
The resort will be the result of a merger of the Magaluf Park Hotel and the adjacent Katmandu Park.
Meliá operates more than 350 hotels across 35 countries.
The company’s differentiated portfolio includes luxury brands such as Gran Meliá, Paradisus and ME by Meliá hotels; upscale brands like Meliá and Innside; and mid-scale brands such as the Sol resort hotels and the TRYP by Wyndham city hotels brands.
