Starwood Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of the first Sheraton branded hotel in the new district of Jiaozhou, near Qingdao city in Shandong province, China.
The 270-room Sheraton Jiaozhou Hotel, owned by Qingdao Greentown Jiaozhou Bay Real Estate Development Company, is part of Starwood’s expansion plan to introduce its brand in second and third tier cities across China.
Each room features a flat screen LCD TV, work area, and bath amenities.
According to Starwood, the hotel, which will be its first managed hotel in China, is set to attract upper-upscale business and leisure travellers to Jiaozhou and the Qingdao area.
Sheraton Hotels global brand leader Hoyt Harper said Sheraton, which already debuted in Beijing, is the first international brand hotel in China.
"Sheraton’s impressive global pipeline is being fueled by phenomenal demand in China with 12 new Sheraton hotels slated to open across this fast-growing market by year’s end driven by strong demand in second and third tier cities," Harper added.
Starwood claims that the opening of Sheraton Jiaozhou Hotel is expected to improve the strategic positioning of the Jiaozhou New District.
Sheraton Jiaozhou Hotel, in addition, has 31 suites, the Shine Spa, Sheraton Club, YUE Chinese Restaurant and a lobby lounge.
The hotel also offers 2,131m² space for meetings, banquets and events featuring audio-visual facilities.
Sheraton, the global brand of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, has recently completed a $6bn global revitalisation and is at present in the middle of a $5bn expansion over the next three years worldwide.
