Wyndham Hotels and Resorts debuts in Chicago

Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, a brand of Wyndham Hotel Group (WHG) and subsidiary of Wyndham Worldwide Corporation (WWC), has expanded its footprint in the US with the opening of Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront hotel.

Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, a brand of Wyndham Hotel Group (WHG) and subsidiary of Wyndham Worldwide Corporation (WWC), has expanded its footprint in the US with the opening of Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront hotel.

The new property is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation programme, under which it has been rebranded as Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront from the former Hotel 71.

Owned by Hospitality Properties Trust, the 39-storey building will continue to be managed by WHG’s management company, which began managing the hotel in November 2012 as a Wyndham-affiliated property.

The hotel features 334 guestrooms equipped with free wireless internet, large desks with ergonomic chairs and flat-screen televisions.

It offers other amenities such as complimentary wireless internet access, spa services, fitness centre, 24hr business centre and the on-site Hoyt’s Chicago, which offers American and Midwestern cuisine.

The first phase of the renovation programme, which is scheduled to be completed by summer 2013, includes redesigned guest rooms, remodelled guest bathrooms and improved elevators.

The second phase of renovation, which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2013, will see the addition of a newly constructed 4,700ft² grand ballroom and 1,660ft² outdoor terrace to the existing penthouse ballroom on the 39th floor.

The renovation also includes the development of 47 timeshare units being developed in partnership with WHG’s sister company, Wyndham Vacation Ownership.

These units will be operated under the CLUB WYNDHAM brand and will be available to timeshare owners in the fourth quarter of 2013.

After completing the renovation programmes, the Chicago hotel will offer over 18,000ft² of flexible indoor and outdoor function space containing 14 event rooms, redesigned breakout rooms and the 3,400ft² penthouse ballroom, all equipped with professional-grade audio-visual equipment, catering and dedicated convention services professionals.

WHG management president Jeff Wagoner said Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront is an exciting addition to the Wyndham family of hotels in the US.
