China is to build a seven-star hotel in a joint project with Saudi Arabia for $1.3bn.

The hotel will be built at Chang’an Avenue, a road near Tiananmen Square in western Beijing’s Mentougou district, 30km from the centre of the Chinese capital.

The hotel will emulate the design of the world’s tallest building, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, but officials have not revealed the height of the new Beijing property.

Saudi Arabia will bear the cost of the project, AFP reports.
