US-based hotel company Marriott International has announced a plan to open the world’s tallest hotel on Shaikh Zayed Road in Dubai in 2012.

The 1,614-room JW Marriott Marquis Hotel will spread across two towers and rise up to 365m, and the hotel will be owned by Emirates Group.

The AED2bn ($0.54bn) property will feature 13 restaurants, bars and lounges, a spa, 4,015m² of meeting space, two ballrooms and 22 breakout rooms, exclusive executive floors and six presidential suites.

The hotel will be developed in two stages, with the first stage adding 800 rooms and the second stage adding the remaining rooms.

The brand has planned the opening of 43 new hotels in the Middle East and Africa by 2016, of which ten new hotels will open in UAE, adding a total of 3,000 rooms in the region.
