The Hotel Andaluz in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico, has achieved LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council.
The 107-room property underwent a $30m renovation in 2009 to incorporate sustainable elements in its design, leading to the certification.
The green elements for which the hotel won the certification include lower energy consumption than other traditional buildings; this was achieved by the use of solar-heated water, high-performance windows, fluorescent and LED lighting and an energy management system.
Additionally, the hotel has reduced its water usage by over 45% and it now recycles cardboard, paper, plastic and metal. All food waste is composted.
Hotel Andaluz is managed by Gemstone Hotels & Resorts.
