Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has opened its first all-inclusive resort, The Westin Resort & Spa, in Playa Conchal, Costa Rica.
The property, formerly known as the Paradisus Playa Conchal Resort, will begin a phased renovation on its 406 suites and all public areas until December 2011.
The property is centred around a lagoon-style pool and includes gardens, thatch-roofed bungalows, suites, restaurants, 603m² of meeting and banquet facilities, and a gym.
The opening of the hotel marks the Westin brand’s expansion in Latin America, where Starwood is to open three more properties by the end of 2011 and double its portfolio by 2014.
Starwood has six hotels in Mexico and one in Guatemala, and is planning four more properties in Latin America over the next two years, including Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center, Peru; Westin Guadalajara, Mexico; and two in Panama: The Westin Panama and The Westin Playa Bonita.
