The US hotel development pipeline dropped 12.2% in April 2011 compared with the previous year, according to the April 2011 STR / McGraw Hill Construction Dodge Pipeline Report.
The country’s active hotel development pipeline for April was 3,053 projects, comprising 322,423 rooms, the report revealed.
The total active pipeline data includes projects in the construction and final planning stages, but does not include projects at the pre-planning stage.
There are reductions in all chain scales, ranging from a 3.5% (77,090 rooms) decline in the upscale segment to a 36% (4,243 rooms) drop in the economy segment; however, projects in the pre-planning phase are reported to have increased, which includes 6,600 luxury rooms and 22,000 upscale rooms.
